Review of Powerlifting Bar 2.0

I wanted a powerlifting bar for my home gym with IPF specs and aggressive knurling at a price that would not break the bank. This bar hits all those points. The tube the bar was in arrived beat up but the bar was in good shape. There was a minor issue with the knurling in one place but not a deal breaker. I sent the staff a photo of the bar so they could address it for quality control down the road. They were quick to reply and greatful for the feedback. The bar I've been using for many months now and it's been awesome. The knurling is aggressive so it will take a couple of workouts for your hands to adjust. The bar is stiff like a IPF rated bar should be. I've abused this bar with deadlifts over 500 lbs many times with no issues. If your looking for a deadlift bar with whip do not get this one. It's also my primary bar for doing squats and bench press. No issues with using it for these movements.

A respectable powerlifting bar.

I purchased this bar about 2 months ago, but wanted to wait until I'd had the chance to put a little weight on it to write a review. Here are my thoughts. 1) Ordering and Delivery: The bar shipped a day or two after I ordered, which was great. The UPS tracking website, however, said that it hadn't left the "seller facility" for close to a week after the shipping label had been created. I contacted UPS and they referred me to BOS. I wasn't able to get anyone at BOS on the phone (it would be nice if they had a customer service rep on call), but, within 24 hours or sending them an email, I got a response. They had shipped the bar, and UPS's system was screwed up. I know this was the case because the day after I sent the email, the bar was delivered (I live in PA, which is at least a 2-3 delivery time from Chicago where the BOS wearhouse is located). Long story short, BOS shipped timely, and fixed UPS's apparent mix-up promptly when I contacted them. This was satisfactory. 2) Condition upon arrival. The bar came in a standard cardboard tube, that had two boxes taped over the ends where the bar's sleeves were. While it looked like a 4th grader had assembled the packaging, it got the job done; the bar inside was fine. Again. satisfactory. 3) Bar appearance and finish. This bar is not going to win any beauty contests. That's OK with me. I bought it to lift weights, not make out. It looks like it rolled off the line at the steel mill and into its packaging. Out of the box, there were some markings and discolorations, though no rust spots or nicks. The bare steel has a satin, unpolished finish. It might not be pretty, but I liked how it looked and felt; I actually preferred the look and feel of the unpolished "industrialesque" steel on the BOS bar to the highly polished, Rogue Ohio bare steel power bar. 3) Knurling. Overall, the knurling is pretty nice; moderately deep and coarse without being overly sharp. It's pretty comparable to the Rogue Ohio Power Bar, though I actually prefer the feel of the BOS, which is attributable, I think to the fact that unpolished steel has a better feel than highly polished steel. The center knurl was really inconsistent; it went from being active and aggressive on one side of the center to a very mild olympic knurl on the other. I've heard this complaint made on YouTube reviews of the bar as well, so I don't think it was just me. Hopefully BOS will fix this on the next run of bars. That said, at this price range, it wasn't a deal-breaker. Knurl marks are properly spaced at 81cm. I haven't weighed the bar or measured the diameter, but it feels right to me. 4) Sleeves. Aesthetically, the sleeves look very nice. They have widely spaced grooves; I prefer smooth sleeves but these look cool and are preferable to more closely spaced grooves in my opinion. The end caps look sharp and don't rattle. The thin, competition styled block looks very cool, but as a practical matter I find I hit the rack with the places setting up to squat out of my rack (if I was using an Eleiko with the same thin blocks the same thing would happen). I solve this by putting a set for 1.5 inch wide Ivanko ring collars on the bar before I add my plates. You could cut a piece of 2 inch internal diameter to a length about 1-2 inches to solve the problem as well if you feel the need to. The tolerance between bar and sleeve are not as tight as I would like; this is my biggest pet peeve about the bar, though, in the grand scheme of things, it's a relatively minor issue. There is some noticeable vertical movement. There is also some lateral movement. There is some resistance with the movement, like there is a spring that stops the lateral movement from being excessive, but it would be better if there was no movement whatsoever. Again, it's not awful, it's just not an Ivanko either. 5) Steel strength / quality. BOS claims that the bar has a tensile strength of 210K, which is pretty good considering that a $1,000.00 Eleiko is rated at 215K. I don't know what steps BOS takes to verify the quality of the steel coming out of their vendor factory, but I have no reason to disbelieve the claimed number either. I've squatted 500 pounds on it a few times, and there's no whip or instability to it. I'm a pretty "fast" squatter, so if it was going to whip at that weight it would have done so with me. Obviously, 500 pounds isn't 1000 pounds, and I don't know how it would handle 1000 pounds, but I have no reason to believe it couldn't.Conclusion: BOS claims that this is the best bar you can get for under $300.00. I don't know if that is American or Canadian dollars. It's not the best bar for under $300.00 American. The Rogue Ohio PB, overall, is built better, and there are a couple of other sub-$300.00 American power bars that are probably at least as good. This bar, however, doesn't cost $300.0.....it's less than $200.00, and easily the best bar in its own price range. As someone who's used a lot of power bars, including

Best bang for buck powerlifting barbell in Canada

The bells of steel barenaked powerlifting barbell is the best bang for buck bar you can get in Canada. The only reason I gave it a 4/5 rating was because the barbell I received, fresh out of the box, had sharp metal shavings all over the knurling. It was impossible to use at first, but I cleaned it up with a wire brush and some 3in1 oil, so all is good now. This is something that should have been done before shipping to the customer though, so that is something to keep in mind. Overall, I love the knurling for deadlifts and the center knurling sticks well for squatting. I wouldn't use the barbell for front squats though, it can be quite rough on the skin in the front rack position.

The BEST, ANYWHERE!

You literally cannot find a better bar or a better price anywhere online. And the fact that shipping is only $29? Wow! My workout buddies are all jealous of my bar and often compliment it. I like how the knurling is most aggressive on the center of the bar, where on the sides it's more mild. This bar will obviously last me for the rest of my life and generations after I'm dead! For any serious power-lifter who likes the best quality, this bar is a must.

As advertised!

I have a small collection of barbells but needed a power bar to be my brute. Bells of Steel power bar doesn't disappoint, bar has good grip and nearly no whip. Only my first workout with it, but solid with a mid 3s squat and pulled 420 quick and easy with it.

Hey Steven! Thank you for the review. The power bar has great knurling and is nice and stiff for when you get to those heavier weights!Happy lifting!

A revolutionary powerlifting bar at an affordable price.

The B.o.S. Powerlifting Bar is the best Powerlifting bar you can get for under $300. A bold claim, I know, so here’s why having this bar in your gym will put you on a gainz train to muscleville.

The Specs
Specifically designed for powerlifting and to meet IPF specs, it is designed for people who’s three favorite words are bench, squat and deadlift.

An aggressive knurl with a bare steel finish gives you a superior grip and will prepare and callous your hands for meet day.

With a 210K PSI tensile strength, 1,5000lb weight capacity and snap ring design, the barenaked powerlifting bar is tough enough for both novice and world-class powerlifters

A thinner block allows for more plates to be loaded onto the bar and less whip, while the ribbed shaft helps prevent plates from shifting while lifting.

A powerlifting barbell differs from an Olympic weightlifting barbell in that it is more rigid in order to better accommodate the heavier weights. Our power bar is 1mm thicker than the Olympic weightlifting bar and has slightly different markings on the bar. Power bars do not have needle bearing and instead have brass bushing as they don’t really need for the sleeves to spin so freely like they do on Olympic bars.
